Ravens Ray Lewis, age and domination.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis at 37 years old continues to play at an intense and relatively free of injuries level. His mindset and conditioning, even at his age keeps him in any conversation when discussing dominance at his position, a dominance that will carry on into the 2012 season for several reasons.

Not one to relax during the offseason Lewis maintains an intense and punishing workout that would exhaust players much younger--wind sprints in the sand while wearing a 45 pound weighted vest? The mere thought of such an "exercise" gives me thoughts of seeking a chiropractor or acupuncture, but then it takes someone with massive devotion to self inflict such pain. His offseason assault in the weight-room along with healthy eating habits has kept Lewis in a physical condition that allows him to be dominant, even in the mid 30's.

Aside from his physical performance on the field Lewis displays that special talent of being a true leader, a field general that motivates his teammates. Many teammates young and older depend upon Lewis for that leadership:

The Ravens defense is known for being a punishing and brutal defense, how does the "old man" fit in? Every season that Lewis has been healthy he has accomplished over 100 combined tackles, whether running down a runningback or while he is in pass coverage. For five straight seasons Lewis had over 100 tackles, finally breaking his streak in 2011 missing four games due to injury yet still leading the Ravens with 95 tackles, truly a dominant force.

Despite his age Lewis is a "force to be reckoned with". He plays with his heart and constantly gives 200% for the fans and of course his teammates. It is little wonder that he is called "The Land Shark", the 37 year old that keeps himself in top shape, smells blood and attacks. A dominant linebacker that is amazing to watch, whether you are a Ravens fan or not!
